Prime Minister Justin Trudeau meets with President of Rwanda Paul Kagame

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today met with the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, on the margins of the 33rd African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Prime Minister Trudeau welcomed the growth and diversification in the relationship between Canada and Rwanda. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest including trade and investment, climate action, gender equality and women’s empowerment, and opportunities for youth.

They also spoke about contemporary challenges to peace and security in Africa, including collaboration at the United Nations, further to Canada’s role as 2020 Chair of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission.

The two leaders also exchanged views on priorities for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting to be hosted in June.
