The Honourable James Michael Flaherty

James Flaherty was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006 and re-elected in 2008 and 2011. He was appointed Minister of Finance in February 2006.

From 1995 to 2005, Mr. Flaherty served as a member of the Ontario legislature representing Whitby-Ajax. During this period, he held many positions, including Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance, Attorney General and Minister of Labour.

He graduated from Princeton University and Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1975 and practised law for more than 20 years before entering politics.

Mr. Flaherty is married to Christine Elliott. They live in Whitby with their triplet sons.
