Prime Minister Stephen Harper today celebrated National Flag of Canada Day with a new tradition – presenting Peace Tower flags to two worthy Canadians, Lisa Miller and Karen Boire.
"Our Canadian flag represents the ideals of freedom, democracy, and justice – it’s these values that are upheld each day by the brave men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces, and their family members – like Lisa and Karen – who support them as they do their heroic work."
Dubbed "the Red Friday Ladies," Lisa Miller and Karen Boire spearheaded a grassroots movement in Canada in support of our hard-working men and women in uniform – a simple expression of respect and honour by wearing red every Friday.
They hosted the first, and largest, Red Friday Rally in Canada in September 2006. Since then, they have attended and hosted countless other events, and continue to spread the word about the importance of Red Fridays.
In honour of Flag Day, Prime Minister Harper expressed his gratitude, on behalf of all Canadians, by presenting Lisa and Karen with Peace Tower flags – a tradition that will continue every year with worthy Canadian patriots.
