PM announces completion of Peterborough airport expansion
Canada’s Economic Action Plan delivers results
“Canada’s airports play a critical role in linking Canadians, their communities and their businesses to the world,” said the Prime Minister. “Our Government is proud to have contributed to the expansion of the Peterborough Municipal Airport through Canada’s Economic Action Plan. In addition to the construction jobs that it generated, this project will continue to spur economic growth in the city and region for years to come – including through the development of the local aeronautics sector.”
The expansion, which includes improvements to exterior infrastructure and interior commercial areas, will enable the Peterborough Municipal Airport to accommodate future growth and to take advantage of emerging aviation growth sectors. It will also help attract new businesses to the region.
The Prime Minister also toured Flying Colours, a leader in aircraft completions and maintenance and the largest tenant at the Peterborough airport.
“As a result of our government’s investment in the Peterborough Airport expansion, Flying Colours can now maintain and modify larger Bombardier aircraft, and perform exterior and interior finishing for them, and the company has plans for future expansion into Boeing and Airbus aircraft, creating jobs and economic growth in the region.”
The Government of Canada is contributing close to one third of the total eligible costs through the Economic Action Plan’s Infrastructure Stimulus Fund (ISF). The ISF is a $4-billion fund that provides funding to provincial, territorial and municipal construction-ready infrastructure rehabilitation projects. Projects funded through the ISF must be completed by October 31, 2011.
