PM celebrates completion of new Ronald McDonald House in Toronto
Economic Action Plan initiative supports families and creates jobs
“Ronald McDonald Houses provide sick children with what they need most—their families,” said the Prime Minister. “Our Government is proud to have contributed to the construction of this new facility in Toronto, which is now the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world. With an increased capacity for families in need, this project is a great example of how Canada’s Economic Action Plan supports communities and families.”
Ronald McDonald Houses provide a home away from home for the families of seriously ill children who are staying at nearby hospitals. Each house has dedicated, compassionate staff and volunteers who take care of the day-to-day essentials of running a home so families can devote more of their time to their sick child.
The new facility, which began welcoming families on November 18, 2011, will enable Ronald McDonald House Toronto to meet the increasing demand for its services. Ronald McDonald House Toronto estimates that this new facility resulted in the creation of an estimated 150 jobs for the duration of the 18 month build, and the generation of approximately 26 full-time and eight part-time positions.
Thanks to Canada’s Economic Action Plan and Canada’s strong economic and financial fundamentals, the Canadian economy has recovered from the global recession better than most other industrialized countries. Canada has been a leader amongst G-7 countries throughout the recovery with nearly 600,000 net new jobs created since July 2009.
