PM welcomes appointment of new Parliamentary Librarian

22 June 2012
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today welcomed the appointment of Sonia L’Heureux as the new Parliamentary Librarian. This appointment is effective immediately.

“I welcome the leadership, vision and innovation Ms. L’Heureux will bring to management of the Library of Parliament and to her service to Parliament and Canadians,” said the Prime Minister. “I wish her all the best as she tackles the challenges of this position.”

Holding a special place in Canadian history, the Library of Parliament is the last remaining part of the original Parliament building. It is a fully functioning library whose collection and services support the activities and decisions of Parliament. The control and management of the Library rests with the Parliamentary Librarian, who is appointed by the Governor in Council.
