PM cheers on Canadian Paralympic athletes as the London 2012 Paralympic Games begin
“Our Paralympic athletes are a source of inspiration and great pride for all Canadians,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Their courage, determination and spirit are unrivalled, and we look forward to cheering them on and celebrating their triumphs during the London Games.”
Canada's Paralympic athletes were proudly led into the Paralympic Stadium by Canadian flag-bearer Garrett Hickling, who will represent Canada in wheelchair rugby.
The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games are being held from August 29 to September 9 in London, United Kingdom. Canada will be represented by more than 145 athletes who will compete in 15 sports. More than 4,000 athletes from 125 countries are participating in the largest ever Paralympic Games.
The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of sport and physical activity, and is the single largest investor in Canada’s sport system, providing funding for initiatives to support and promote sport participation among all Canadians.
