PM nominates next Senate Ethics Officer

4 October 2012
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the nomination of Lyse Ricard as the new Senate Ethics Officer.

“Ms. Ricard has proven her integrity, honesty and dedication to her country through her various roles in the public service,” said the Prime Minister. “Her broad understanding of the public sector and her recent experience as interim Senate Ethics Officer will bring knowledge and sound reason to this position. I am pleased that she has accepted this nomination.”

Ms. Ricard has been serving as interim Senate Ethics Officer since April, 2012. A dedicated public servant for over 30 years, she has held a variety of positions including most recently as Director of the Board of Directors at the Université du Québec en Outaouais and served for several offices including the Canada Revenue Agency and the Office of the Auditor General of Canada. Ms. Ricard holds a B.A.A (Honours) in Business Administration and a Diploma in Business Information Technology from the Université du Québec.

This appointment is made by the Governor in Council once the leader of every recognized party in the Senate has been consulted and after the Senate has approved the appointment by resolution.

This appointment does not change the government’s commitment to merge the positions of Senate Ethics Officer with the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner. Ms. Ricard’s position will be of value in the interim while this merge is being evaluated.
