PM visits vocational school in Senegal
Announces new support for skills training
“Canada is helping Senegal to develop exciting new industries that will foster sustainable economic development, as well as help understand and mitigate natural disasters,” said the Prime Minister. “A well-trained local workforce is essential to making this work. Canada is also helping students in Senegal get the training they need to enter the job market.”
Today’s announcement of the contribution to the Support for Vocational Training Program will help strengthen training institutions located in the Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack, and Thies regions of Senegal. It will provide teachers with the skills and material they need to prepare youth, especially women and girls, for the job market, and help them get jobs or start their own business. Students will also acquire literacy and vocational skills, get increased knowledge about and access to microfinance institutions and receive business training.
Since 2009, the Government of Canada has been working with the Government of Senegal in the field of geomatics, when the two countries began working on the creation of Senegal’s National Geomatics Plan. Now nearing completion, the Plan will help the African nation to optimize sustainable land management and allocation of its resources.
With their training at the CEDT, students will have the capabilities to assist the Government of Senegal with the ongoing maintenance of their National Geomatics Plan.
