Prime Minister Stephen Harper is pleased to announce the nomination of Karen E. Shepherd as Commissioner of Lobbying.
Karen Shepherd has been serving as Interim Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada since July 2, 2008. Prior to taking on this role, Mrs. Shepherd held the position of Director of Investigations and Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists from 2004 to 2008. During this period, she played a key role in laying the groundwork for the transition to the new Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying.
“Karen Shepherd is extremely well qualified for the position of Commissioner of Lobbying,” said the Prime Minister. “She brings to the position an extensive knowledge of the lobbyist registration regime and a deep understanding of the need to ensure that lobbying is done ethically and with the highest standards. I am pleased that she has agreed to be nominated for this important role.”
The position of Commissioner of Lobbying was established on July 2, 2008 under the Lobbying Act to ensure that lobbying is done in a transparent and ethical way. The Commissioner ensures that all aspects of the lobbyist registration regime are adhered to and reports to Parliament on the findings and conclusions of any investigation conducted.
