Prime Minister Harper met with Chilean President Sebastián Piñera
This was the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.
Prime Minister Harper and President Piñera discussed a wide range of issues, including a robust approach to our common values such as democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
Prime Minister Harper reiterated that Canada is willing to further assist Chile following the recent earthquake.
The two leaders also discussed the state of the economy in our respective countries.
Prime Minister Harper reiterated the priority that Canada places on the Americas while highlighting the positive and forward-looking relationship between Canada and Chile.
Both leaders agreed that the Free Trade Agreement between our two countries has been mutually beneficial to our economies.
