Cancellation of PM trip to Poland for state funeral

Due to the ongoing closure of airspace over Europe,  Prime Minister Stephen Harper unfortunately will be unable to attend the state  funeral for Lech Kaczynski, President of Poland; Maria Kaczynska, First Lady  of Poland; and the political, military and civilian leaders killed in a plane  crash while they were travelling to commemorate the 70th  anniversary of the Katyn Massacre.in Smolensk, Russia, last week.

On  behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, Prime Minister Harper  expresses his deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the government and  people of Poland. Tomorrow, Prime Minister Harper’s thoughts and prayers will  be with the people of Poland. 

Prime Minister Harper will  send the Book of Condolences and Peace Tower flag that flew on the Day of  Mourning, which were to accompany him on his trip, onward to the Polish  people.
