This evening, Prime Minister Harper spoke by phone with the Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd. The two leaders discussed preparations and priorities for the Toronto G-20 Summit.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of restoring the health of global economy by entrenching recovery and laying the foundations for sustainable and balanced growth.
The two Prime Ministers noted the importance of implementing clear and realistic plans for fiscal consolidation and sustainability, a priority for discussion at the Toronto Summit.
They also exchanged views on other areas where G-20 actions have been, and remain, vital, including developing global growth strategies and implementing financial sector reform.
Prime Ministers Harper and Rudd agreed that Canada and Australia were like-minded toward our financial institutions and therefore do not support implementation of a bank tax in our respective countries.
