This morning, Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke by phone with Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy, to discuss preparations and priorities for the upcoming Muskoka G-8 and Toronto G-20 summits.
The leaders discussed Canada’s maternal, newborn and child health initiative and a range of global peace and security matters.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of restoring the health of global economy by entrenching recovery and laying the foundations for sustainable and balanced growth. They additionally noted the importance of implementing clear and realistic plans for fiscal consolidation and sustainability.
Prime Minister Harper also took advantage of the occasion to wish the Italian team well in their quest to win another World Cup.
Today's call with Prime Minister Berlusconi is part of a series of calls that Prime Minister Harper is making to G-8 and G-20 Leaders ahead of the Muskoka G-8 and Toronto G-20 summits.
