PM meets with Shimon Peres, President of Israel

Prime Minister Harper met this morning with Israeli President Peres. The two leaders recognized the close relationship and deep friendship between Canada and Israel. President Peres emphasized Israel's deepest thanks and appreciation for Canada's continued support and encouragement of Israel, noting "we know we are not alone." The Prime Minister commended Israel and the Palestinian Authority for restarting peace negotiations and expressed hope both sides will reach a successful conclusion. The PM also noted his disappointment with the unbalanced Human Rights Council report issued yesterday.
