Prime Minister Harper and President Bill Clinton discussed the situation in Haiti, including development assistance and the pace of reconstruction. The Prime Minister reiterated the long-term commitment of Canadians and their Government to support and assist the Haitian people. He also took the opportunity to introduce to President Clinton to Mr. Henri-Paul Normandin, who has been nominated as Canada's next ambassador to Haiti. Prime Minister Harper and President Clinton also discussed the important role that the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean will play as the UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti. President Clinton also thanked Canada for its leadership in the global fight against AIDS.
