PM Harper meets with Malaysian Deputy PM Yassin

12 November 2010
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Harper had a good discussion on trade prospects and ways to deepen the trade relationship between the two countries. Malaysia is Canada's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia. Prime Minister Harper and Deputy Prime Minister Yassin had a robust and productive discussion on illegal migrants as Malaysia faces a similar problem.

There was an interesting discussion with some colour as Deputy Prime Minister Yassin had participated as a youth in the Canada World Youth program where he travelled across Canada, from Montreal to Edmonton. He also went to the Calgary Stampede, Banff and Saskatoon where he remembered curling and experiencing the cold weather.

They also discussed biotechnology and renewable fuels. Prime Minister Harper tasked minister Van Loan to to look at the possibility of a youth mobility agreement to enhance Canadians going to Malaysia and vice-versa.
