The Bali Process is a voluntary, non-binding forum that aims to bring participants together to work on practical measures to help combat people, smuggling, trafficking in persons, and related transnational crimes in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. The group is made up of more than 50 countries and organizations, and is co-chaired by Australia and Indonesia.
Canada participates in the Bali Process, including attending official-level workshops.
Ward Elcock, the Prime Minister’s Special Advisor on Human Smuggling and Illegal Migration, will attend the next technical workshop in Manila November 22-24.
The Bali Process has recently been reinvigorated due to the upsurge in illegal arrivals by sea in Australia, many of which arrive from Indonesia.
