Prime Minister Stephen Harper speaks with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi

Prime Minister Harper this morning spoke with Prime Minister Gonzi of Malta, thanking him for the assistance being provided to Canada in ongoing efforts to evacuate remaining Canadian citizens from Libya. Malta is hosting Canadian Forces aircraft and personnel engaged in these efforts. The two leaders also discussed the ongoing and deeply concerning developments in Libya, including the need to deter violence by the Libyan regime against its own citizens, and for coordinated international action to address growing humanitarian needs in Libya and neighbouring countries, including a role for the United Nations.
