Prime Minister Stephen Harper speaks with Japan's Ambassador to Canada

A few moments ago, Prime Minister Harper called Japan's Ambassador to Canada. On behalf of all Canadians, the Prime Minister offered his heartfelt condolences to the Japanese people.

The thoughts and prayers of all Canadians are with all those affected by the powerful earthquake, its aftershocks, and the tsunami. Prime Minister Harper offered Canada’s assistance. Canada stands ready to help and support Japan in responding to this disaster.

Canadian officials at the Embassy of Canada in Tokyo are working with Japanese authorities to determine whether any Canadians have been injured in the earthquake or tsunami.
