8 August 2011
Brasília, Brazil
Prime Minister Stephen Harper met with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff today in Brasília during his first official visit to Brazil.  Both leaders welcomed the strengthening of the bilateral relationship this visit represents.

The leaders explored how best to further strengthen trade and investment partnerships, and recognized that Canada and Brazil should capitalize on synergies in agriculture and natural resources and work more closely together.

The two leaders agreed to launch a CEO Forum providing a platform for business leaders to expand commercial opportunities. They also agreed to increased bilateral cooperation in the areas of education, science and technology, energy, international development, defence and preparation for the Olympic Games.

The leaders also discussed key global issues, including the situation of the global economy and the importance of working to achieve progress in the context of the G-20, notably through the Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth.

Prime Minister Harper extended an invitation to President Rousseff to visit Canada in 2012 and indicated he looked forward to reciprocating her hospitality.
