Prime Minister Stephen Harper speaks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk

Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk today to congratulate him for his party’s victory in recent national elections.

In their call, the prime ministers also discussed the state of the global economy and the need for G20 members to take strong actions to restore market and public confidence. The need for Europe to take immediate measures to respond to the sovereign debt and banking system crisis taking place in the Eurozone was underscored.

Prime Minister Harper also signalled the conclusion of a Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement as a key priority for Canada and encouraged Poland to continue to support a successful outcome.

The leaders also touched on democracy and human rights issues in Eastern Europe.
