Phone call with EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso

Prime Minister Harper spoke with EU Commission President, José Manuel Barroso today. The two leaders discussed the critically important need for the G-20 to restore market confidence by ensuring concrete policy commitments at the upcoming Summit in Cannes, France. 

Prime Minister Harper urged Mr. Barroso to help lead Europe towards agreement on immediate measures to recapitalize banks and address the situation in Greece. 

Prime Minister Harper noted that with the Next Phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, Canada is doing its part by delivering on its G-20 Toronto Summit fiscal consolidation commitments while emphasizing job creation for Canadians.

The two leaders also confirmed their shared, strong support for concluding an early and ambitious Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
