Prime Minister Harper spoke this evening with Chilean President Sebastián Piñera. As part of his preparations for the G-20 Summit, Prime Minister Harper sought the President's views on current challenges of global economic stability and growth and both agreed on the need for decisive action in Cannes.

They also took time to update on the economic outlook in their respective countries. Prime Minister Harper emphasized that Canada is doing its part to meet its Toronto G-20 deficit reduction commitments and to create jobs for Canadians.

Their discussion also touched on the close bilateral relationship between Canada and Chile. They agreed to work together to further enhance relations and in this context Prime Minister Harper extended an invitation to President Piñera to visit Canada in 2012.
