Prime Minister Harper speaks with Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil

24 October 2011
Ottawa, Ontario

In the lead up to the Cannes G-20 Summit, Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke this afternoon with Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil.

The two leaders discussed the serious uncertainty facing the global economy, brought on by persistent economic imbalances and made worse by immediate threats such as the Eurozone banking and debt crisis. The leaders exchanged views on the impact the current economic uncertainty is having on the Brazilian and Canadian economies.

The Prime Minister shared his view that all G-20 leaders must step up to the plate and deliver concrete solutions in Cannes if another global recession is to be avoided.

Prime Minister Harper and President Rousseff also discussed bilateral issues and re-iterated their enthusiasm for the Canada-Brazil CEO Forum, whose creation was jointly announced during the Prime Minister’s trip to Brazil last August.
