Prime Minister Harper meets with Prime Minister Singh of India

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today met with Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, on the margins of the Seoul Nuclear Security Summit.

The two prime ministers focused on economic issues and enhanced Canada-India economic relations.  Prime Minister Harper stressed his desire to conclude both the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) as well as the Social Security Agreement (SSA) as soon as possible. Both leaders also took stock of negotiations related to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Prime Minister Harper took the opportunity to commend India on its support for the recent UN Human Rights Council resolution on Sri Lanka.

During the meeting there was also a very good exchange on key international security issues, including nuclear security.

Finally, both leaders looked forward to Prime Minister Harper making a return visit to India at a mutually convenient time and to the deepening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
