The leaders noted with satisfaction the increase in bilateral trade and investment since the entry into force of the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement in August 2009. Prime Minister Harper noted with appreciation the support of Peru for Canada's joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. He also welcomed progress made towards the lifting of the restrictions against Canadian beef, following the recent lift of the ban on Canadian cattle.
President Humala thanked Canada for its support to ongoing efforts to promote prosperity and social inclusion in Peru. Prime Minister Harper was pleased to announce a new project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency to increase capacity in the sustainable and efficient management of the natural resources sector.
