Prime Minister Harper meets with President François Hollande of France

This morning at Camp David, on the margins of the G8 Summit, Prime Minister Stephen Harper was pleased to meet bilaterally for the first time with the new French President François Hollande. They spoke by phone immediately following the President's recent electoral victory.

The two leaders reaffirmed the deep and enduring relationship that exists between Canada and France. They exchanged views on international affairs and the global economy.

They discussed the Eurozone crisis and the need for continued resolve to restore fiscal stability and ensure long-term growth. Both Leaders spoke of the importance of deepening economic relations and of concluding a Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement that will contribute to prosperity and growth for Canada and members of the European Union.
