Prime Minister Stephen Harper meets Prime Minister Najib Mikati of Lebanon

Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today for the first time with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Kinshasa on the margins of the Francophonie Summit. Canada's unique relationship with Lebanon and the Lebanese people was highlighted.

The discussion focused on the conflict in Syria and its impact on the broader region, particularly Lebanon. Prime Minister Harper praised Lebanese authorities for their generosity in welcoming refugees from Syria. To date, Canada has provided $12 million$ in humanitarian assistance for the Syrian refugee crisis.

Prime Minister Harper underscored Canada’s continued strong support for the stability, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.
