Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on the 65th anniversary of Pakistan's independence

14 August 2012
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark the 65th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence on August 14th:

“Today I extend my best wishes upon the 65th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence, which also coincides with the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Canada.

“Canada is home to a vibrant community of Canadians of Pakistani heritage, who continue to make significant contributions to our nation’s cultural, political and economic life.

“On this special occasion, we reflect on these contributions as we celebrate together the long-standing ties between Canada and Pakistan.

“On behalf of all Canadians, Laureen and I would like to wish Pakistanis, as well as Canadians of Pakistani descent, a happy and festive Pakistan Independence Day.”
