Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on the death of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today upon learning of the death of Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of Ethiopia:
"It is with regret that I learned today of the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia.
“Prime Minister Meles led his country into the ranks of the fastest growing economies in Africa. I know from our attendance together at high-level meetings, including the G-8 Summit in Muskoka and most recently at the G-20 in Los Cabos, that he was deeply committed to achieving poverty reduction and food security in Ethiopia.
”On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I extend my sincere condolences to his wife, Mrs. Azeb Mesfin, their children, and to the government and people of Ethiopia."
