The Energy House is an 807 square-meter multi-use facility that combines classrooms and working areas in a modern installation that boasts the latest in energy saving technologies. The building – which was constructed to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum standards – will allow an additional 199 students to conduct research and prepare for careers in the growing alternative energy sector. Federal support for this project, in the amount of $3.9 million, was provided through Industry Canada’s Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP). The Government of British Columbia also provided support, bringing total funding for this project to approximately $8 million.
The newly renovated Health Sciences Building features modernized classrooms, and laboratories that will accommodate 141 more health studies students. Federal support for this project, in the amount of $1.2 million, was also provided through KIP. The Government of British Columbia and private partners contributed an additional $1.3 million for a total investment of $2.5 million.
The Knowledge Infrastructure Program is a $2 billion initiative to improve research and training facilities at Canadian post-secondary institutions. Since its introduction in 2009, as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Program has helped fund more than 500 projects throughout the country.
