Prime Minister Stephen Harper today presented the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Public Service of Canada to three distinguished public servants. The Outstanding Achievement Award is presented to individuals who have displayed long-term excellence throughout their career in Canada’s public service.
"Every day Canadians benefit from the dedication and professionalism of our public servants," said the Prime Minister. "Today’s award recipients represent the very best qualities of what it means to be a public servant. Through their service they have not only helped produce a better government, they have also helped make Canada a better country."
Recipients of this prestigious award this year are:
Margaret Bloodworth, former National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister and Associate Secretary to the Cabinet, Privy Council Office
Dr. Steve MacLean, President, Canadian Space Agency
Dr. Ian C. P. Smith, Director General, National Research Council of Canada
The Government of Canada introduced the Outstanding Achievement Award, the highest honour in the Public Service of Canada, in 1966 to recognize senior public servants who have distinguished themselves by a sustained commitment to excellence. A Committee of distinguished Canadians reviews nominations and makes its recommendations directly to the Prime Minister.
