Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced a new program that will help reduce crime and improve security for all Jamaicans.

"This four-year investment in the Justice Undertakings for Social Transformation (JUST) program is a clear demonstration of Canada’s engagement in the Americas, the Prime Minister said.  "Our Americas Strategy focuses on improving democratic governance and security in the hemisphere, which form the basis of this new program."

This commitment will help Jamaica address the many challenges it faces when it comes to ensuring the safety of its citizens, from modernizing its criminal legislation to better witness protection programs.

The Government of Jamaica has identified justice and public safety as priority areas for urgent reform.  The program will strengthen both institutions and legislation responsible for public safety, and bring justice services to communities through neighbourhood resource centres.
