Prime Minister Stephen Harper today presented the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Public Service of Canada to four senior public servants. The awards were presented at a ceremony honouring the four recipients for their sustained commitment to excellence and exceptional service to Canada. The ceremony was hosted by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada.
"Today, I am honoured to recognize some of the most innovative and talented members of the Public Service of Canada," said the Prime Minister. "Their accomplishments and leadership deserve the highest level of recognition, not only from their colleagues, but from all Canadians. These public servants have made outstanding, sustained achievements in fields such as science and research, economy and finance, social policy, law, international affairs and the security of Canada."
This year’s award recipients are:
• Louise Branch, Service Canada, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada
• Dr. Jeffrey Farber, Health Canada
• Jim Judd, Canadian Security Intelligence Service
• John Sims, Department of Justice Canada
In 1966, the Government of Canada introduced the Outstanding Achievement Award, which is considered the highest honour in the Public Service of Canada, to recognize senior public servants who have distinguished themselves through a commitment to excellence. Including this year’s recipients, a total of 86 awards have been conferred since the inception of the program. A Committee of distinguished Canadians from outside the Public Service, appointed by the Prime Minister, reviews nominations and makes its recommendations directly to the Prime Minister.
