PM announces support for economic growth and development in the Americas
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced Canadian support for initiatives across the Americas that will promote a stronger, more stable business environment. The announcement was made during the Summit of the Americas, where the Prime Minister was joined by Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Americas and Consular Affairs) and Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.
“Canada is committed to working with countries in the Americas on pressing challenges affecting their economic growth and development,” said Prime Minister Harper. “The initiatives being announced today will contribute to a more stable regional business and investment climate – including access to clean, renewable energy sources. This will enhance commercial opportunities for our entrepreneurs while reducing their risks.”
The contributions announced today will support a series of initiatives throughout the Americas, including:
- Private sector initiatives that promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, and reducing climate change vulnerabilities;
- Enhanced access to sustainable energy for targeted countries in the region;
- Technical assistance to strengthen the investment climate in select countries;
- Renewed support for the Organization of American States, the leading multilateral organization in the
