Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on the resignation of Jim Prentice

Ottawa, Ontario
4 November 2010

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement:

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank Jim Prentice for his tireless efforts in the service of Canadians during nearly a decade of public life.

“In 2002, he stepped aside in a by-election race so I could become the Member of Parliament for Calgary Southwest and Leader of the Opposition.  Ever since, ours has been one of the most delightful relationships I have had in public life.

“The Minister was elected as a Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre-North in the 2004, 2006 and 2008 elections.  Since this government assumed office in 2006, he has held a number of senior and trusted positions and has also served as Chair of the important Cabinet Committee on Operations – effectively making him the Chief Operating Officer of the Government of Canada.  In all of these functions, he has earned the highest respect not just of me, but of all his colleagues in Parliament and all Canadians.

“I wish him and Karen all the best in their future endeavours.”
