PM opens the 2011 Canada Winter Games

Halifax, Nova Scotia
11 February 2011

Hello everybody

Halifax, Nova Scotia, you’ve done a great job. It is so great to be here at the Canada Winter Games.

I know how hard all of you have worked to get this far. You should be proud of what you have achieved.  We are proud of you. Give yourselves a big hand.

Here you take on each other - province against province. But never forget that you are getting ready to take on the world - to beat the best in the world - because that’s what it’s all about.

Canadian athletes did that last year at the Vancouver Olympics. Do you remember when Canada’s best won the most gold medals any country ever, at the Winter Olympic Games?

Coaches, Sponsors, Organizers, and especially athletes, on behalf of the Government of Canada, and all Canadians watching back home, I wish you good luck and I wish you a great Games.

Go out there and give it all you've got, give us your best, and we will see you again, at Sochi, Russia, in 2014, and beyond.

Own that podium!
