Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attends the 27th Annual Dragon Ball Gala in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

Ottawa, Ontario
8 February 2016

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the Chinese New Year:

“This week, Canadians of Chinese descent will celebrate the New Year— and welcome the arrival of the year of the Fire Monkey, an animal that symbolizes cleverness, wittiness, intelligence, and curiosity.

“As friends and families come together in shared hope for a prosperous year to come, we take this moment to recognize the valuable contributions Canadians of Chinese origin have made to our country. We know that Canada is a strong and resilient nation because of its diversity.

“On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those marking this occasion a very happy New Year.
