The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on la Fête nationale du Québec and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day:
“Today, on la Fête nationale du Québec, we celebrate the vibrant history of Québec and the unique culture and identity of its people. As a Quebecer, I take enormous pride in my province’s creativity, strength, and character.
“June 24th also marks Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, an occasion for all Francophones across the country to celebrate our proud traditions and history.
“On this day, we pay homage to the French language and our French-Canadian heritage. Both have played a vital role in shaping our country, and defining who we are as Canadians.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, Sophie and I extend our best wishes to all Quebecers and Canadians celebrating la Fête nationale du Québec and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day.”
