The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the first anniversary of the deadly shootings in La Loche, Saskatchewan, on January 22, 2016:

“One year ago in La Loche, Saskatchewan, four Canadians were senselessly killed and seven more were injured. On this tragic anniversary, our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day.

“Over the past year, the people of La Loche have inspired an entire country with their resilience, determination to rebuild, and optimism for a better future. Our government is working every day to help realize that future, and we will continue to partner with the community, Indigenous Peoples, and all orders of government to address the issues facing La Loche.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, Sophie and I join all Canadians in solemn commemoration of this anniversary. To the community of La Loche, please accept our deepest sympathies and know that you have our unwavering support.”
