Prime Minister Trudeau and President Gauck underscored the deep and multifaceted relations that exist between Canada and Germany, including shared values and strong people-to-people ties. They welcomed the European Parliament's ratification of the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) as an important step that will expand cooperation, create jobs, and increase economic opportunities between the two countries. Both leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to freedom, human rights and democratic principles.
