The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, met with Alpha Condé, President of Guinea, who is also currently the Chairperson of the African Union, as well as Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on the margins of the G7 in Taormina, Italy.

The Prime Minister underscored Canada’s appreciation of the important role that the African Union plays and conveyed Canada’s desire to deepen ties with the African Union and African countries. The Prime Minister commended the African Union’s important work, including in economic and social development, as well as peacekeeping and maintaining regional stability. The three leaders also discussed issues of mutual interest including women’s empowerment, youth, renewable energy, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
