  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper speaks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland
    Prime Minister Harper spoke today with Prime Minister Tusk of Poland. The two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. They strongly condemned Russia’s illegal occupation of Ukraine, and its continuing provocative military actions.  They also stressed that it is critical to have a coordinated international response to Russia’s continuing and unprovoked acts of aggression. The leaders agreed that the international community must continue to apply pressure on Russia, including additional sanctions to further isolate Russia economically and politically.

  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper speaks with Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma of Latvia
    Prime Minister Harper spoke today with Prime Minister Straujuma of Latvia. The two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. They strongly condemned Russia’s unprovoked violation of Ukrainian sovereignty, noting that its territorial integrity must be respected. Prime Minister Straujuma thanked Prime Minister Harper for Canada's strong stance on these issues. The two leaders also discussed the importance of a coordinated international response to Russia’s continuing acts of aggression.

  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper meets with John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand
    Prime Minister Stephen Harper held a bilateral meeting today with Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand on the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit.  The leaders confirmed their commitment to further strengthen the close and productive bilateral relations and to increasing bilateral trade and investment in the context of Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan and ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations.

  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper meets with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili of Georgia
    On the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit, Prime Minister Harper had a brief bilateral discussion with Prime Minister Garibashvili of Georgia.  This was their first meeting. The two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and the importance of a coordinated international response to Russia’s acts of aggression in Crimea. Prime Minister Harper also took the opportunity to congratulate Georgia on recent developments regarding their Association Agreement with the European Union.

  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper meets with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
    Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan on the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit. The two leaders last met in Ottawa when Prime Minister Abe made an official visit to Canada in September 2013. Today's meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of progress on bilateral issues and commitments made during that visit.

    Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today with Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway on the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit. This was the leaders' first meeting. The discussion began with an exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine, including the need to show strong resolve against Russia's unacceptable and illegal actions, and to continue to support the people of Ukraine. Prime Minister Harper took the time to share his impressions following his visit to Kyiv on March 22.
