Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Canada shines as an example of what people can achieve when they work together, joined in common purpose.
Canadians can be proud of our country and its achievements. Together we have built a nation that is prosperous and safe; a country where what matters is who you are and what you do, not who you know or where you’re from; a place where people from around the world can live in harmony; a federation that is more united at home and respected abroad than it has been for decades.
Faced with the worst global recession in half a century, the Government implemented the most ambitious stimulus package among the G7 countries. Canada's Economic Action Plan is putting Canadians to work today building the infrastructure needed for a more prosperous tomorrow. In its second and final phase, the Plan is working: consumer confidence is on the rise, jobs (540,000 since the depth of the global recession) are being created and the economy is once again growing.
While steering Canada through the global recession is the Government’s foremost priority, we remain committed to delivering on the other issues that matter to Canadians, including cracking down on crime, balancing environmental protection with economic development, strengthening Canada’s position on the world stage, enhancing our Arctic sovereignty and rebuilding our Canadian Forces.
Canadians elected a government to improve life for themselves and their families. And under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, this Government is delivering the principled, focused and effective leadership needed to ensure Canada emerges from the global recession stronger than ever.
