The Honourable Nate Erskine-Smith was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Beaches—East York in 2015. He was re-elected in 2019 and 2021.
Minister Erskine-Smith has been a member of various parliamentary committees, associations, and groups, including the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, for which he has served as Vice-Chair. As Past-President of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, he has represented Canada at parliamentary conferences around the world.
Born and raised in Beaches—East York, Minister Erskine-Smith was a commercial litigation lawyer in Toronto before entering politics. He worked at a large firm on Bay Street and supplemented his law practice with pro bono legal work, including representing public interest matters in court and conducting research for the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.
Minister Erskine-Smith is passionate about volunteering his time in support of charitable activities in his community and reaching out to young Canadians on the importance of engaging in the democratic process.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and a Juris Doctor, both from Queen’s University, as well as a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2011. He and his wife, Amy, have two sons.
