Yesterday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with Sebastián Piñera, President of Chile, on the margins of the Summit of the Americas in Lima, Peru.

The leaders praised the longstanding and vibrant relationship between the two countries and the benefits both countries have derived from the Canada-Chile Free Trade Agreement. They also discussed Canada-Chile collaboration as co-chairs for 2017-19 of the Equal Rights Coalition.

The Prime Minister and President exchanged views on Venezuela. The Prime Minister commended Chile’s leadership in the Lima Group of foreign ministers in seeking to find a resolution to the crisis. They went on to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria.

Prime Minister Trudeau and President Piñera also discussed free trade agreement negotiations of the Pacific Alliance, as well as issues of mutual interest such as climate change, and science and technology. Both leaders agreed to stay in close contact.
