Prime Minister Justin Trudeau meets with President Emmanuel Macron of France

PM Trudeau meets with President Macron at the G20 in Argentina

Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with French President Emmanuel Macron during the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires.

The two leaders exchanged perspectives on how to make progress on key G20 priorities, such as international trade and climate action.

The two leaders also discussed the transition of Canada’s 2018 G7 Presidency to France in 2019, and how to maintain G7 momentum on such important work as promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment as well as reducing ocean plastics.

The leaders noted that CETA is promoting new economic opportunities for Canadians and Europeans and helping to create jobs.

They agreed Russia should de-escalate its aggression against Ukraine and release the three Ukrainian vessels and their crew that it seized on November 25, 2018.

The Prime Minister and the President also discussed the murder of Jamal Khashoggi on October 2, 2018 in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The Prime Minister outlined the targeted sanctions that Canada enacted on 17 Saudi nationals who were implicated in the murder.
