Prime Minister Justin Trudeau meets with G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council Representatives

Today, Prime Minister Trudeau met with representatives of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council Nadia Murad, Denis Mukwege, and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

The Prime Minister thanked the representatives for their leadership and for sharing their knowledge and expertise with leaders. He welcomed the Council’s recommendations and Call to Action to the G7, which builds upon the work of the first Council created during Canada’s 2018 G7 Presidency.

They exchanged views on concrete actions needed to further advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.  The Prime Minister noted the significant progress being made by Canada to identify and abolish discriminatory laws, enact and implement progressive legislative frameworks, engage and support civil society, and ensure accountability.

Prime Minister Trudeau also stressed the importance of collective action and greater ambition by G7 leaders in fighting gender inequalities around the world, a message that he delivered in discussions at the G7 Summit in Biarritz.
