Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Chrystia Freeland, and the Prime Minister’s special representative for the Prairies, Jim Carr, met with Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi to discuss their shared priorities. The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with Mayor Nenshi to support Calgary’s economic recovery.
The leaders discussed shared investments being made in priority infrastructure projects through the Investing in Canada Plan, and agreed on the importance of moving forward on these projects to ensure the residents of Calgary and all of Alberta benefit from the economic growth and environmental protections that these projects promise. The Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the special representative, and the Mayor also discussed the significant progress being made in construction of the Trans Mountain Expansion project, where the Trans Mountain Corporation and its contractors have already hired 2,200 people to work on the project, and the importance of the pipeline’s expansion to Alberta’s economy.
The Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the special representative, and the Mayor agreed to continue collaborating on Calgary’s economic development priorities and they looked forward to their next meeting.
